Conference Volunteer Info and application in PDF form

The  LGPA-GOAL Chicago  staff  is seeking volunteers to help with the 14th Annual  2010 International L.G.B.T. Conference for Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice Professionals June 22 - 28, 2010. In exchange for work hours, volunteers are eligible for reduced conference registration fees.

Please note that if you decide to volunteer you most likely WILL NOT be able to attend every workshop you have your eye on. We do our best to schedule our volunteers around the workshops of their choice, but cannot guarantee you will be free for those workshops.

Full conference volunteers are agreeing to 14 hours of volunteering. It is VERY IMPORTANT that you show up for your volunteer hours - we rely on you. Please take time to read our volunteer policy below. Thank you!

Why Volunteer?

Where else can you do important work, support the LGBT Police and the Community, feel wholly appreciated, eat well, get great training and  meet officers from all over the world, attend so many great events and be able to see and hear so many of the wonders of this premier conference for nearly nothing? This is feel-good work at its best!!!

Our volunteer policy is as follows:

  • You must be at least 18 years of age to volunteer.
  • Volunteer positions are limited and scheduled by order they are received.
  • Volunteers are eligible for reduced registration fees.
  • Volunteers must be available throughout the day during which they’re scheduled. IE: If you sign up to volunteer on Thursday, you could be scheduled ANY TIME during that day. If you are only available for specific hours, please note that on your application.
  • Full volunteers will be scheduled to work on at least two days.
  • One-day conference volunteers will be scheduled to work during the day they wish to attend - IE: If you attend only on Friday - you will need to volunteer on Friday.
  • Walk-in volunteers are not accepted - you must apply to volunteer in advance.

Areas where volunteers are needed include:

  • Pre-Conference set-up: registration area, posting directional signs, moving boxes within the facility, exhibit hall set-up,  resource table sales, and copying.
  • Dining and Meal Assistants: assisting with nightly buffets, ticket takers, seating.\
  • Registration: (if you consider yourself shy, let us know! We won’t schedule you in registration. This job requires lots of interaction with the public.) This is where everyone attending the conference checks in.
  • Sales and Resource Areas.
  • Nightly Events set up and take down, tickets, drawings, auctions, etc.
  • Chauffeurs / tour guides
  • Workshop Assistants are needed to assist in workshop rooms throughout the conference - and will be scheduled ALL DAY Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from about 8am - 4pm. Assistants need to be available for an orientation the Thursday before the conference - and DO NOT get to choose which workshops they assist in. Workshop Assistant perks include free conference registration and meals. Preference will be given to past workshop assistants. If you’re interested in becoming a workshop assistant, please make note of it on your volunteer application, and the volunteer coordinator will contact you with more information.

Thank you so much for your interest in volunteering!
